Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic who is also a popular public speaking event organizer. Feminist Frequency is a website that hosts videos and commentaries looking at the portrayals of gender roles in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic, blogger and a prestigious feminist for more than a decade. Feminist Frequency is a not-for profit educational site that explores the representation of women in pop cultural narratives is founded and directed by Sarkeesian. In addition, she works to expose the issues surrounding the targeted and sexist attack on women and others of minority groups in the online world, she is committed to breaking down the stigmas and stereotypes associated with pop culture. Sarkeesian is a graduate in political thought and social theory at York University. She is also an internationally acclaimed public speaker. Sarkeesian gave speeches to the TEDxWomen Festival as well as to the United Nations Broadband Working Group. When she was a student at the university, Sarkeesian became concerned about issues related to gender equality and the rights of women in the early stages. She had a plan to start a web-based series examining gender representation in video games and ended up being the victim of a harassment online campaign. The incident did not deter her, but instead strengthened her determination as feminist media critic. Her numerous contributions to the field of feminist have been recognized by numerous awards.
